About Teak

Teak, a close grained hardwood with a high natural oil content, is one of the world's most valuable timbers. As a result of its durability, strength, and characteristics to resist the corrosive effects of weather, Teakwood has no equal in the making of outdoor furniture.

Construction: Construction starts with the careful selection of timber. Our high quality, premium grade Teak is obtained from government regulated plantations. The Teak is then carefully kiln-dried to 10% moisture content. After handcrafting every component of an item, the pieces are assembled using mortise and tenon joinery to ensure durability. Only solid brass hardware is used. All our furniture is built oversize to provide maximum comfort and elegance. The next step is an extensive sanding process to achieve a "smooth as silk" feel. Finally, we perform rigid quality control inspections before each piece is treated with a UV protector finish, packaged and readied for shipment.

Finish options: We offer two UV coating options for our Outdoor Teak and Iron & Teak (OTT and IRT product codes): Exterior Dark Brown finish and Exterior Medium Brown finish. Either option provides the luxurious finished look of interior furniture with the protection needed for the outdoors. In addition, we offer the option of Natural Teak without any coating to expose its natural beauty. Regardless of which option you choose, you can be certain that our furniture will add luxury and comfort to any outdoor or interior setting.

Care of Teak

Exterior Dark Brown or Medium Brown finishes: Are two specialty outdoor stains with extra UV protection over smooth-sanded Teak. Available in two color shades, they provide protection against the discoloring UV rays of the sun, and resistance to water damage or food spills. However depending on exposure to the sun and rain, the color will fade with time. The coating degradation might be more noticeable in areas exposed to frequent rubbing, sweat, Chlorine, cleaning chemicals, or prolonged water contact. To restore the color of the new finish, we recommend our easy-to-apply specially formulated coating as needed. The product can be ordered directly from us and has detailed application instructions on the container.

Natural: Is smooth-sanded Teak without any coating. This option requires little or no maintenance. When left unprotected under the elements, Teak's outer surface will weather to a warm silver grey color providing a very elegant "aged" look. If however the original, golden-brown color of Teak is desired, it can be restored by first thoroughly cleaning the surface of the wood, then applying our specially formulated Teak Oil. For the cleaning process, we recommend using a stiff scrubbing brush and a solution of warm water, dish washing liquid and a small amount of bleach. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the furniture then let it completely dry before applying the Teak Oil. This will remove the grey patina and restore the beautiful golden color of new Teak.

Expected wear of Teak

Outdoor Teak furniture will age gracefully with some minor shrinkage and occasional small surface cracks caused by the expansion and contraction of the wood. As nature transforms the appearance of your furniture into elegant time-seasoned pieces, you can be assured that its structure will be intact for many years to come. Teak gives outdoor furniture a timeless appeal as it ages. The finish that we apply to the surface of our Teak is a very specialized product and the best that technology has to offer at this time. However despite all the protective measures, the elements will eventually degrade the coating of your furniture at a rate dependent on exposure. You can prolong the life of your furniture and the finish on it by keeping your furniture in a sheltered location or protected with commercially available covers when not being used for long periods of time. It will also be wise to keep your furniture away from overexposure to direct sun or moisture.
